Project Management Maturity Model (PMMM)

Background

The APM Group has taken the model produced by the Office of Government Commerce (OGC) for Maturity Levels in Project Management (see www.ogc.gov.uk) and developed an accreditation process for gauging the maturity level of organisations for the management of their projects. The OGC model has been adopted as the standard against which the maturity level is gauged by the APM Group. The process is led by a PPM RC working for an ACO.

Maturity Level

There are five maturity levels in the OGC's Project Management Maturity Model, and specified processes that one expects to find at each level. Copies can be obtained from the OGC at www.ogc.gov.uk or through APM Group Programme and Project Management Registered Consultants (PPMRCs) working for Accredited Consulting Organisations (ACOs).

The Benefits

  • A known Maturity Level, with precise recommendations on how to improve.
  • Organisations will know their maturity level at project management, and be able to compare themselves with other organisations.
  • A big improvement on self-assessments.
    - A consistent set of questionnaires and scoring.
    - Independently verified and certified.
  • An independently held set of "benchmarks".

The Verification Costs

The independent verification of a Maturity Level costs £2000 and is valid for a three year period, subject to an annual verification by the PPM Registered Consultant, with a renewal fee of £1000. After three years a full re-accreditation is due. These fees are in addition to the Consultant's assignment fees.
